The tournament was hosted by highly-regarded UKEL casters and open to all skill levels (while still attracting some of the best W&NB players there are), with an emphasis on accessibility and belonging. The event was streamed live to our primary Twitch channel as well as pushed across all additional social channels. We ensured diverse representation across casters, moderators, and staff, reinforcing an authentic and welcoming environment.
Gaia's Gauntlet: Opportunities to connect
In line with our commitment to supporting minority groups and alongside the signing of our Women & Non-Binary (W&NB) League of Legends team, we organized a tournament specifically for the W&NB community. This initiative aimed to provide a safe space for marginalized players to showcase their skills, build connections, and connect with like-minded individuals within the esports ecosystem.
Objectives
- Create an inclusive and welcoming competitive space for W&NB players
- Foster community engagement and visibility for underrepresented groups
- Demonstrate the impact of intentional inclusivity in gaming
Execution
Outcomes
- Increased Engagement: Drew participants and viewers from across Europe, many of whom were new to Verdant’s community.
- Community Growth: Event sparked a surge in W&NB community activity and Discord members.
- Positive Feedback: Players reported having fun, feeling safe and were excited to return for future events.
- Visibility & Representation: By spotlighting W&NB players, the event helped normalise diverse identities within competitive spaces.
